About the Artist
Gordon Boyd is a Canadian glass artist whose work explores the expressive potential of blown glass as both a functional and conceptual medium. Born in Manitoba and now based in Ontario, he has been working with glass for over a decade. Gordon holds a Bachelor's degree in Craft and Design from Sheridan College and is beginning to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at OCAD in the coming Fall. For the last 5 years he’s been a resident artist at the Living Arts Centre, where he continues to refine his practice and push the boundaries of contemporary glass.
Gordon’s work is rooted in the idea that craft, like writing, can serve as a deeply personal form of expression. His blown glass vessels—ranging from bowls to drinkware—are transformed into intimate objects that capture moments of thought, emotion, and process. By incorporating text and mark-making directly onto the glass, he creates pieces that function as both physical artifacts and visual journals, blurring the line between the personal and the shared. His practice invites viewers to engage closely, encouraging a process of discovery as they uncover the layered meanings within his work.
Beyond his artistic practice, Gordon is dedicated to creating meaningful objects that people can integrate into their daily lives. Through his business, Lake Winnipeg Glassworks, he focuses on producing high-quality, lasting glassware designed to be cherished rather than replaced. Each piece is crafted with durability and longevity in mind, emphasizing the beauty and functionality of handmade glass as an enduring presence in the home. His goal is to bring thoughtful, well-crafted work into the hands of those who appreciate the artistry and permanence of fine glassware.
With a background in traditional glassblowing techniques and a strong conceptual approach, Gordon has exhibited widely and received multiple awards in glass. His work continues to explore the relationship between material, memory, and storytelling, demonstrating the ability of glass to hold both form and meaning in a uniquely compelling way
